The womb is not just a physical organ — it’s the energetic center of a woman's body, intimately connected to emotions, creativity, and life force. When we talk about trauma stored in the body, the womb often holds deep layers of unresolved pain, past experiences, and even generational trauma. This space, so sacred and powerful, can also be vulnerable, absorbing the energies, emotions, and traumas that we encounter in life.
Understanding how trauma impacts the womb and learning how to heal it can be incredibly empowering, leading to profound physical, emotional, and spiritual transformation.

In this blog, we'll explore:
How trauma is held in the womb
Some symptoms of womb trauma
The different types of trauma that can be held here - on the different levels of our being
The connection between our womb and unresolved trauma as women
The role of our emotional health on our hormonal balance
And what can be done to release these emotional burdens for greater inner connection to your sacred womb space, & hence greater - peace, pleasure and aliveness.
Unfortunately, medical research into women’s health remains significantly underfunded and so underexplored — something that can become all too apparent if you’ve ever encountered problems in this area. This can make it frustrating, isolating and difficult to know where to turn for support.
Somatic Therapies and Somatic practices offer us self-empowering tools that help us to bridge the body and the mind gap. It can help us to find answers that are otherwise unavailable.
My Own Story
Like many women, i myself have experienced excrutiatingly painful periods, that on one occasion almost took me to the ER, and i have begrudged having a cycle. But it was suffering accutely from what i call 'womb grief', which later developed into what is named "PMDD" and hugely debilitating episodes of suicidal thoughts and emotions, that i was darkly initiated into working with my cycle and my womb.
I don't believe anyone who hasn't experiened the pure underworld hell of PMDD can understand quite what this experience is like. I went from experiencing soul crushing symptoms, nearly every month, to this being ( at the time of writing this ) just over 2 years with next to ZERO symptoms. Not only that but moon-time ( menstuation ) has become a sacred portal into ecstatic, multi-dimensional, naturally psychedelic and sensuous states. I am now convinced our womb and our cycle are an untapped treasure and GIFT we have as woman. Medicine within our own bodies.

Trauma in the Womb: Symptoms
Womb trauma can manifest in several ways, and because the womb is a deeply emotional and important centre, trauma here often impacts both body and mind. Some common symptoms of trauma held in the womb include:
Painful periods or irregular menstrual cycles ( painful periods are not actually 'normal' )
Pelvic pain or discomfort ( even without medical diagnoses )
Digestive issues like bloating or cramps in the lower abdomen
Coldness in the womb area ( physically cold to the touch or feeling emotionally “numb”and shutdown )
Difficulty with fertility or frequent miscarriages
Hormonal imbalances ( such as PMDD ) or other reproductive health issues
Emotional disconnection or difficulty feeling creative, sensual, sexual or feminine
Erratic Emotions - wild mood swings that feel out of your control
We feel afraid of our own Radiance - power, beauty, sensuality as women and either hide, or seek excessive validation from outside sources
A sense of heaviness, dissonace or accute sensetivity - as though sensations in your womb area are "too much" or "unbearable" to be able to feel.
"Womb Grief" - a sense of deep pain, loss and anguish, of our own life and potential being robbed; of the opportunity to create new life / have children; of live the life we desired to live being or feeling unattainable and hopeless
Difficultly Manifesting - a sense of feeling blocked in our ability to create what we most desire for ourselves
Unhealthy or Difficult Relationships - finding it difficult to attract relationships, or continually finding yourself repeating unhealthy or toxic relational patterns or sexual dynamics that don't serve the best in you.
These are a few, from what i have seen and experienced - personally and in my clients lives, though this list is not definitive. If you feel and sense something not mentioned here in connection with your womb - i wish to affirm and validate you that it is something, and something worth exploring. No symptoms are accidental or irrelevant, they are indicators of something, and that may be very unique and personal to you. Somatic work teaches us that our own bodies hold the wisdom we need within our symptoms.
"Our womb is a potent power centre that has a conciousness of it's own. Our symptoms are only the language of our bodies attempt to communicate with us."

Causes of Womb Trauma
Womb trauma can stem from various causes, both physical and emotional, including:
Sexual trauma or abuse: Sexual assault, abuse, violation or even consensual but violent and uncaring sexual experiences, where you were unable to advocate or speak up for yourself; and even sexual activity before you are fully open and ready - can leave deep imprints of trauma in the womb space. This trauma can create lasting physical issues, such as pelvic misalignment, contraction and numbing, stored rage, or/ & even the physical dislodging of the womb itself.
Physical impact and lifestyle: High-impact exercises, like running on hard surfaces, can impact the pelvic region and create womb displacement. This, coupled with poor posture or sedentary lifestyles, can create physical tension, lack of healthly blood flow to the area, and create a sense of disconnect from the womb area. Cold climates, sitting and standing on cold surfaces and cold feet also impact our womb health ( it is vital that this area of our bodies be kept warm ). As can expecting ourselves to have the same energy levels throughout the month, and pushing against our own bodies when they are telling us we need rest.
Grief and fertility issues: The womb, also in ancient mystic traditions associated with the sacral chakra, holds emotions, including childlessness grief. Whether from miscarriages, struggles with infertility, the desire and loss of ability to have children or hormonal imbalances, the emotional weight can linger in this space, often unconsciously.
Emotional trauma: Because the womb is connected to the sacral chakra — our emotional center — any significant emotional trauma, such as heartbreak, grief, ongoing stress, or childhood trauma can impact the health and vitality of the womb.
Energetic imprints from past lovers: The womb has been known to absorb the energy of those we have been intimate with. Without conscious clearing, we may carry the emotional energy of past partners and past relationships, which can create blockages and lead to a sense of disconnection to Self and dysregulation. It is important not only to be mindful of our partners, but to be able to alchemise, weave or release other's energy to come back to our own centre and alignment.
Generational Trauma in the Womb
Womb trauma is not always the result of our direct experiences; sometimes, it’s passed down through generations. Generational trauma refers to the emotional wounds and unresolved pain that are inherited through family lines. Women often unconsciously carry the stories, grief, and trauma of their mothers, grandmothers, and ancestors in their wombs.
Healing womb trauma, then, is not just about healing yourself—it’s about breaking cycles of pain that have been passed down for generations, freeing yourself and future generations from those energetic and emotional burdens.

The Impact of Trauma and Emotional Suppression
How do these traumas, and the repressed emotional energy, that often goes along with trauma, affect the endocrine system and hormonal balance in women?
Emotions can have a significant impact on the endocrine system, which regulates hormonal balance in women. The connection between emotions and hormones is a two-way street—emotions can influence hormone production, and hormone fluctuations can affect emotions. Understanding this interaction is key to grasping how stress, anxiety, trauma, and even joy and relaxation can deeply affect a woman’s hormonal & mental/ emotional health.
Trauma, especially when we have a lot of unprocessed, frozen or suppressed emotions and energy, can wreak havoc on our delicate hormonal balance. The body stores emotional trauma in various places, including the reproductive organs, which can lead to chronic hormonal imbalances, pelvic pain, fybroids, and other reproductive challenges.
Emotions are energies that are meant to FLOW, but when they are resiricted or deeply unconcious they can cause havoc.

You Can heal Your Life
According to Louise Hay's book - "You Can Heal Your Life", some of the folllowing symptoms may have these root life causes:
Abdominal Cramps - Fear. Stopping the process. Refusal to flow with experiences.
Anaemia - Yes but, attitude. Lack of joy. Fear of life. Feeling not good enough.
Cysts - Running the old painful movie. Nursing hurts. A false growth. Depression - Anger you feel you do not have a right to have. Hopelessness.
Female Problems - Denial of the self. Rejecting femininity. Rejection of the feminine aspect and rhythms of life
Fibroid Tumours and Cysts - Nursing a hurt from a partner. A blow to the feminine ego.
Menstrual Problems - Rejection of one's femininity. Guilt, fear. Belief that the genitals are sinful or dirty.
Ovaries - Represent points of creation. Creativity.
P.M.S. Post Menstrual Syndrome - Allowing confusion to reign. Giving power to out side influences. Rejection of the feminine processes.
This is not to say 'these are the underlying cause for YOU', they may not resonate atall, but more importantly they act as map, and an invitation to sit in enquiry with them, to feel into whether they hold any resonance. Often, deep healing work requires us to make some life changes, and our symptoms can be the messengers of this. Whatever we are currently doing is not working for us and our body is showing us the signs of that.
When we can begin to befriend our bodies and see it as an allie, rather than an enemy, our pain and symptoms become the messengers that can guide us into deeper harmony, relationship and alignment with our Truer Self.

In my Somatic Sessions and womb Healing work i listen to deeply through my own body to a clients body, energetic field and nervous system. I listen to what their body speaks to me and work with that. My work is always trauma-informed, as it should be in this type of work, and it is guided by a clients own body.
I work with deep sensitivity and reverance for the wisdom and intelligence of a body, never forcing a body to reveal or release something it is not ready to - even if the mind is desiring of this. ( Any type of force can cause more harm than good, and re-traumatisation ).
A huge key in this work, that is profoundly healing in itself, is befriendng the body with kindness and Love. Body has her own ancient & living intelligence, and her perfect time to reveal, so we work with whatever she feels safe and ready - to reveal.
How to Heal Womb Trauma: Somatic Healing Approaches
Healing womb trauma or trauma held in the womb requires a holistic approach, addressing the physical, emotional, and energetic layers of trauma. The key is a safe, nurturing environment for the body and soul to feel, release, and heal. We feel to heal—meaning, we must connect with the sensations and emotions stored in our bodies to fully process and release them.
1. Somatic Healing for Womb Connection
The somatic approach to healing emphasizes reconnecting with our body and becoming aware of the sensations and emotions that are stored within. Trauma often causes us to disconnect from our bodies, and somatic practices help bridge that gap, and rebuild a loving relationship with our bodies.
Somatic healing allows us to feel the pain or tension in the womb and listen to its wisdom. It’s about tuning into the sensations, emotions, and stories that the body is holding onto and gently working to release them.
Somatic Practices for Womb Healing:
Breathing into the Womb: Lie on your back and place your hands over your womb. With each inhale, imagine the breath flowing down to the womb space, filling it with warmth and light. With each exhale, release any tension or heaviness you feel in that area. Allow your body to move gently with the sensations felt here.
Sounding to Release Energy: Our throat and pelvis are energetically connected, and vocalising can help release stored energy from the womb. You can try humming, sighing, or using womb vowel sounds like "Ahhh" while placing your attention on your womb space. This helps move blocked energy and promotes emotional release.

Somatic Yoga for Womb Health and Reconnection
Yoga offers gentle, grounding movements that help to release stored trauma and reconnect with your womb space. Certain poses can encourage energy flow, open up the pelvis, and release tension. Somatic yoga enables you to connect deeply with the sensations within your body. To find out about 1-1 classes Click Here
Yoga Poses for Womb Healing:
Child’s Pose (Balasana): This pose helps you feel safe, grounded, and connected to your body. It opens up the pelvic region and encourages deep relaxation.
Goddess Pose (Utkata Konasana): A powerful, grounding pose that opens the hips and connects you to the strength and creativity of your womb.
Reclined Bound Angle Pose (Supta Baddha Konasana): A deeply restorative pose that encourages the release of tension in the hips and pelvis. This pose allows for emotional and physical opening in the womb area.
3. Somatic Womb Massage and Healing Touch
Womb massage is another profound way to reconnect with your womb space. Massaging the lower belly with warm oils can increase blood flow, warm the area, and promote emotional and energetic release. It can also help re-sensetise this area and develop your connection to her. You can do this as a personal ritual, or seek the guidance of a trained practitioner who specializes in womb healing. Womb massage can also help with respositioning the womb and aid in starting to heal some of the physical ailments such as fybroids.
Regularly massaging the womb area also helps restore warmth, especially if the area feels cold or disconnected—a common sign of stored trauma.

4. Releasing Energies of Past Lovers
It is said that the energy from a partner can stay imprinted for 7 years within our womb space. If we are particularly sensitive we can feel how the thoughts, emotions, behaviours and even characteristics of a partner can become embedded within us. There are both kundalini yoga tools and ancient feminine alchemy tools that can help us to process and transform that energy.
A simple way to begin to clear out the energetic imprints of past lovers is to create a cleansing ritual. Visualisation and intention are powerful tools here. You might visualize a golden or white light clearing your womb space, releasing any energies that don’t belong to you, and filling the space with your own energy, creativity, and love. You can also visualise using a yellow orange rose to clear and gather up any lingering energies and release them down into the earth. Our monthly bleed can also be used conciously as an opportunity to release. You will learn some of these sacred feminine practices and more on the Sacred Womb Healing and Awakening Journey i designed HERE. And in any of my other somatic healing containers, such as the:
5. Breathwork for Womb Trauma Healing
Breathwork is a powerful tool for releasing trauma and stored emotions. Focusing on deep, slow breaths while imagining your breath flowing into the womb can help clear stagnation and activate healing energy. This is incorporated into my somatic healing work and sacred womb massage work programs :).
Final Thoughts on Womb Healing
Healing womb trauma is a journey of reconnection—with your body, emotions, and inner wisdom. Through somatic practices, yoga, breathwork, and intentional touch, you can release layers of pain, tension, and trauma held in the womb. It’s important to approach this process with patience, compassion, and a deep sense of honor for the sacredness of your womb space.
Remember, we feel to heal. By gently exploring the sensations and emotions stored in your womb, you allow space for healing, growth, and the restoration of your innate feminine power. Your womb is not just a physical organ but a portal to your deepest wisdom, creativity, and life force. Take the time to nurture it, and in doing so, you will nurture your entire being.
A lesser know, magical aspect of healing our womb, is that we can awaken in ourselves the ability to experience ecstatic, mystical, psycadelic states of interconnection. Something that is available to all women. It is written into the magic of our bodies. : )
